Small business owners throughout Britain are being told that they should regain power of their websites, as news has surfaced that immoral web designers are using the firm’s domain names as weapons, making small businesses pay out vast amounts of money to make simple modifications to the site.

A recent statement from Newlaunch, an online website creating business, has shown that it would be a much more sensible option for managers or owners of these small businesses to start looking into creating their own websites.  The founder of Newlaunch explains that due to the economic downturn, it could be a devastating mistake to leave something so important in the hands of someone you may not be able to trust, and he goes on to say that building a website can be so easy, a beginner should be able to set one up in a matter of minutes.

Founder of Newlaunch, Seltzer Cole, has said, “Many customers are left confused when they hear designers talking about HTML, CSS and PHP, so are happy to hand over total control of their online business to a complete stranger in many cases. This shouldn’t be the case, as everything from registering a domain name, setting up the email address, design and hosting can be a quick, cheap, easily understood and automated process. These days, there’s no reason to be scared of technology.”

While Newlaunch is not disputing the fact that there are many sound companies available for your small businesses website needs that are both trustworthy and reliable, Newlaunch is saying that there are those firms out there that will prey on a small businesses lack of knowledge and good-will and will charge the earth for a poor quality of service.  Newlaunch went on to say that many small businesses are unaware that when they give a web designer the right to register their domain name on their behalf, they may find that they are not the ones listed as the owner of the site, leaving the small business purely in the hands of the web designer giving them the opportunity to use the domain name as a hostage if they wanted.

Seltzer Cole goes on to say, “The current global economic downturn means that small business owners should be focused on cutting unnecessary costs without compromising on quality. I don’t believe any small business owner should have to pay thousands for a website when it could cost them a tiny fraction of that if they did it themselves.”

In worst case scenarios, small businesses may find that they have to pay out ridiculous amounts of money to the website creator to release the domain name and files attached to the site in the event of a dispute between the two parties, for example.  The small business involved may find they have to start a new website from scratch which is not a great solution as those small businesses with an established client base will find that they will see a loss of loyal visitors.
