Stay one step ahead through the recession.

It isn’t an easy time for small businesses – but it doesn’t mean that the end is nigh.  By all means, many small businesses will be closing their doors, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you will be in that position and here are a few simple steps to help keep the recession demons at bay.

Productivity and growth
are key issues that need to be addressed, even through a recession period in the economy.  The idea is to keep one eye on remaining afloat, and the other on a forward plan.

Productivity – Word of Web

A great way of keeping the productivity fire lit is to get yourself known for providing a top class service or product, as when it comes time for the client or customer to choose between you or John Doe Limited down the street, they are going to listen to friend’s referrals, perhaps over every other choice aspect.

We are living in the time of the online review, which gets round much faster and further than the spoken word that small businesses enjoyed years ago.  When I shop on Amazon one of the first things I look for is a review of the product, and if I’m not satisfied there I look for other reviews around the Web.

Keep the curtain of mystery up…

Make sure that any savings that you can make within your business aren’t reflected to the customer or client.  The key to cutting costs is not to forfeit quality of your product or service but to make efforts seem seamless to the outside world.

Price and quality, therefore, should not necessarily go hand in hand.  If a small business wants to raise their prices in an attempt to offset their recession woes, then the customer or client will notice and seeing as they aren’t getting any extra benefits for their money, they aren’t going to be walking out with a smile on their faces.

Don’t throw promotional deals to the wind!

Some small businesses make the decision to cut whatever promotional deals they have running at the time, and put future plans for promotions on the back burner.  Whatever happens, don’t do this – it won’t work!

By doing this, a small business is setting their future in stone, as they will be unequivocally forced to bear the full force of the economic situation, no matter what…

A sure-fire way around this issue is to plan ahead and create a forward strategic plan which will allow you to think about the future highs and lows that will undoubtedly come in the coming months and years.

By creating a forward strategic plan you should be able to clearly focus on how to react to the future economic state, effectively as it happens.  By following this simple plan you will be a step ahead of most other small businesses out there – and that’s what you want!
