If your business uses PayPal to manage your online sales, then you’ll know doubt be experiencing problems that are costing you time and money.

In the second malfunction in the space of two weeks, PayPal’s “handling cart” feature that tracks on custom charges for handling, shipping and other services has a series of new glitches.

On May 15th, when the problems began, online merchants lost money each time they used PayPal to sell items that use the feature. 12 days after it began, PayPal’s support team say they can’t fix the problem.

Merchants could effectively cut-out that section of the sales process but it would involve a lot of time and effort. One merchant is quoted as saying, “We’d hate to re-price all the shipping and put the coding changes in just before they fix it and have to change it all back, which is why an ETA to fix or some basic information regarding the action they are taking would be very useful.”

One of this particular merchant’s customer’s is losing £3.95 on every order placed.

A PayPal spokesperson said the glitch presents itself when merchants uses PayPal’s Website Payment Standard product and customers live in another country. “We understand and recognize that for these merchants and their international customers, this is a serious issue,” he said. “We apologize for the inconvenience that this is causing to their business. We are working to correct the problem and expect it will be fixed within the next few days.”

The initial glitch made it impossible for merchants to process international transactions. Adding to the problem, credit card holders were billed even though they received no delivery of goods or services they had purchased. PayPal got this problem fixed a few days after it began.

Both problems have stemmed from the software update that PayPal made on the 15th. If you are a PayPal user I’m afraid that you’ll just have to wait until PayPal sort the problem out.
