Office Advice – The Options…

Do you find that you are crippling your profits because you are forking out to cover the cost of your office space?  Do you want to do something about it?  Don’t worry, there could be options for you that don’t involve therapy and angry bank managers…

Rent has gone through the roof over the past decade, and despite the recent slump in rent prices the pressure is most definitely unneeded in such an economically troubling time – so what can you do about it?

This won’t apply to every small business, maybe it won’t tick all your boxes, but for many small businesses an office space is just a waste of space.  Not every business needs an office complete with desks, pinboards, windows and swivelling chairs!  Instead, the telephone could supply all your needs…

Alright, maybe not just the telephone but that’s where it’s all going to start for you – with the telephone you can connect to customers and clients through the Internet, set up your presence online and even make phone calls if you wanted to…all from home!

That’s right…say goodbye to the office altogether!  It’s a scary option that brings with it certain risks of failure, but if you can find it in you to put those risks and worried behind you then the move will most probably pay off.

And if you used your office as a glorified meeting room then worry not because there are premium clubs out there that are hoping to exchange meeting rooms with you for money – it’s up to you whether you want to pay a couple of hundred pounds a year for a club membership or tens of thousands of pounds a year on an office…

Discuss Your Rent

Don’t worry if turning away from the office isn’t an option for you – maybe you have a strong client base that is constantly streaming through the office, perhaps you are tied in to a contract that you can’t break or could the view just be too nice to lose?

There is another way!  Don’t be scared to approach your landlord about changing the rental terms – sometimes it can be beneficial to move from annual payments to quarterly or monthly payments and you never know, the landlord might prefer the change as well…

Whatever you want to change you aren’t going to get anywhere without broaching the subject with your landlord.  Landlords are being forced to be slightly more lenient with their approaches to rent in this economic climate so take advantage and test the waters.

Be sensible and avoid ridiculous demands…rent has been growing with the economy over the last decade but now that the economy is turning the other way it is time to start applying the pressure on the landlords rather than the other way around for a change.
