The key to website success!
By now you must be aware that it’s important to have a certain level of presence online - you need to have a website basically! But it’s one thing having a website and it’s another thing have a good website.
Dodgy websites can really turn your potential customers away and that’s not what you want at all. You need to have your website working for you, not against you - so make sure you follow these simple steps to make sure your website doesn’t drag you down but instead builds you up and makes your business stronger!
Simplicity
You don’t want to put your customers off with a name that is so confusing it can’t be recalled easily. Opt for a simple, short name that rolls off the tongue. Furthermore the end of the address can often be a cause for confusion - if you’re based in the UK then try and get .co.uk for the end of your address. The idea is to keep everything as simple as possible so there is no excuse for customers not to visit your site.
Design
You should be thinking about a theme with a professional use of colour that work well with each other - bright red and lime green together will just hurt visitor’s eyes whereas you will find that other colours will invite visitors. Be consistent at the same time so you have a theme running throughout.
Target Audience
You should know who your site is aimed at. Think carefully about the different sections of your site as some might be suitable for some people while other sections will be better for others. There is no point creating an advice website for pregnant women with articles filled with obscenities strewn across the page…
Up-To-Date
There is nothing worse than visiting a website that hasn’t been touched since 1993 unless it actually closed down shortly after. Once you get in a routine it can be really easy to stay on top of your site and make it fresh and modern. After all your site reflects your business so you don’t want people to think that your business is dilapidated…
Get Found
Everyone wants to be on the front page of Google’s results page - but how many actually are? If you want to find your site as close to the first page as possible then you will need to look into keywords and search engine optimisation. If no one can find you online then there is little point being there…
Don’t Steal
The last thing you want is to use someone else’s images or text on your site only to be found out and taken to court. You should make sure that everything you are using on your site has been either created by you or you have the rights to the material. Don’t throw your business away because you made a silly mistake!
