Recognition

There are a number of behavioural symptoms that you should keep your eyes peeled for - although you might think that an employee is a working nightmare they may just be dealing with workplace stress.

Look for tiredness and irritability in your employees - employees under stress will often find that their quality of work will deteriorate and you should be on the look out for any such sign.

Furthermore employees could even become physically sick, lose their sense of humour or suffer with depression or severe headaches.  Stay vigilant and keep aware for symptoms like these - if you find them then you will have to tackle the issue head on.

Removing

Once you have identified stress in your workplace you should work at removing it.  You should aim for the root of the problem and then the ripples will eventually reach everyone around the office.

You may need to sort out the environment, after all employees will be in the office often for more time than they are anywhere else.  Keep things fresh and inviting.  You should even look at introducing team-building activities that promote teamwork, which will bring employees closer.

Delegate an employees workload responsibilities to the employee themselves and you will find that they will start to feel that they have a purpose within the business once again.

Consider providing an increase to the current amount of paid leave and encourage your employees to make sure they make the most of their allocated time away from the office.

Avoiding

Either before the issue has reached your office or once it has been eradicated you should spend time making sure that it is prevented from making an appearance.  A strong defence is often the best attack.

Be realistic about your employee’s workloads and keep a check on relationships within the office.  Furthermore working environments should be kept fresh and inviting as this has such a large impact on the stress levels in the office.

Keep involved with what is going on in your office and make sure your employees aren’t silently suffering - stop stress in its tracks.
