How to get rid of the clients you can’t stand keeping hold of…
Not every client you have is as good as gold as you had wished when you have taken them on - some clients can be late payers, others can be annoyingly persistent. Whatever their issues, you don’t necessarily have to be burdened with them for the rest of your business’s existence…
You can offload them - keeping them on can often do more harm than good, they can bring morale down, they can make you resent your business but worst of all they can just be annoying on a daily basis.
Instead of letting the situation spiral out of control until you’re pulling your hair out, turned to smoking and spending evenings in dodgy bars trying to drink away your woes, perhaps you should think about letting them go…
…and this is how to do it;
Make the Decision
The first step you should make is to make the decision to end the relationship between your business and your client in your mind. By making the decision you will be setting yourself a goal that you need to complete and by having the goal in mind you will be able to make the whole process a reality rather than a dream.
Stay Professional
You can never win an argument by shouting. Don’t start a fist fight, instead sit there remaining professional despite what they might be doing. If they are screaming and shouting then carry on remaining professional.
The best course of action to take is to be polite and clear - all you need to do is explain that the relationship between your business and the client isn’t working and then explain why and be clear that this is the end of the relationship.
Plan
Don’t go into the meeting without knowing exactly what you are planning to say - don’t find yourself in a position where you blurt out the fact that you don’t want to work with them anymore.
Don’t Moan To Your Friends
You might have had a rough ride with this particular client - you might have had a nightmare and all you want to do is slag off the client with your mates. Be safe and don’t bother…it won’t be worth it!
If you talk to the wrong person it will undoubtedly get back to the client and you will just come off looking unprofessional - instead keep it to yourself or tell your life-partner. Don’t come off the bad party…
Look Forward
Get excited again about the future - you’ve just offloaded your worst client and it’s time to start enjoying your business again. You’ll feel refreshed and your business will be rejuvenated. Your employees will even start working better as they won’t be fearing the nasty client. Enjoy life once again…
