Luxury
Although it doesn’t sound correct, you would be surprised at how many people turn to the luxuries of life through a recession. Although we are treating ourselves less frequently, we are still turning to the finer things in life to cheer us up when times are tight.
It’s interesting to remember that the luxurious ice cream, Haagen Dazs, saw a boost in sales in the recession in the 90s as people wanted to eat away their sorrows the right way!
Fix It
Before the recession, if someone’s television broke down they would most likely throw it away and rush out to buy another one - in a recession this isn’t the case.
Instead we look to fix broken appliances rather than forking out money to replace them. If you are in the fixing business then you’ll find business get stronger - you’ll be fixing all day and night! Even if you’re only good at fixing TVs in your spare time think about offering your services in the evenings to paying customers.
Beside The Seaside
Much fewer people are willing or able to dish out the money to fly off to the Caribbean this year and will most likely choose the British seaside as a replacement instead.
Think about cashing in on this boom this summer by setting up a B&B if you live near a tourist hotspot, think about becoming a guide or even set up a stall on the beach renting out deck chairs - be inventive and think about how your can turn this migration to the beach into money.
Debt Collection
Although it’s a sad old business, more and more people are being chased for money - a lot more than usual in fact. Think about how you could get involved in some way as the recession is sure to be a busy time for all those who collect payments.
Make sure that you think about all the aspects of such a job and make sure that you can look after your own safety before venturing down this path - it won’t be an easy business to undertake, but you won’t have to worry about the recession anymore.
