Cut costs not a job…
Cutting costs seem to be going hand in hand with redundancies but that is somewhat of a drastic step when there are a number of other solutions to the problem without losing any employees.
After all it has been declared recently that it could actually cost a business more to make redundancies through the recession and then re-hire workers when the economy starts to level out.
5 cost cutting steps.
So give these simple steps a try first and see how things pan out – you never know these tips may just save your employees jobs…
1. Bulk Buy – The best way to save money when buying is by buying in bulk. Costco is a great shop that has settled around the country and only business owners can grab a membership so you can imagine the potential and exclusive savings.
2. Green is Good! – We all know it’s time to give our environment a hand and all chip in to heal it, but by trying to look after the world you’ll also be looking after your own business. Make sure your lights are switched off in unused rooms for a start, and take a look at using energy efficient equipment – good for you, good for the environment!
3. Home, James… - There has been some debate recently about how only 8 per cent of small business owners would trust their employees to work away from the office. If you are one of these few businesses then let them go home and get some work done – you’ll probably find they’ll work harder, longer and more efficiently and imagine all the savings you’ll be making in the office.
4. Website rejuvenation – How’s your website looking. For many potential customers or clients this is their only window into your business and as we all know first impressions are everything. The pros claim that a site should be touched up at least every 6 months and although staying on top of the site won’t be slashing any costs it should be bringing in more attention.
5. Voice-over-Internet-Protocol – If this is the first time your hearing about VoIP then get excited because you’re about to save a lot of money. Making calls over the Internet through services such as Skype is all the rage through these difficult times and more and more businesses are turning to the cheap and cheerful communication. Check around for small business deals and whatever happens get ready to save a few quid!
Whatever you do, try these tips first before taking the painstaking steps of making someone redundant, you might just be able to save everyone a lot of grief.

We recently switched to Comcast for internet. I think a lot of small businesses turn to SBC because they think there’s no other options. There are a lot cheaper options out there.
