£500 million for businesses that train the unemployed

Gordon Brown has provided new incentives for businesses in the country as he has claimed that half a million people would be given a bit of help to find either new jobs or training. Brown has announced that the government will be making funds available to provide employers with up to £2,500 if they train someone who has been unemployed for over six months, in a bid to tackle the current employment issues being faced [+]
Boris Johnson - Green 500 to lower London’s carbon footprint

Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, has announced that the capitol’s businesses must concentrate on their carbon footprints in a bid to improve the city’s ecological impact by going ‘green’.
The programme, labelled the Green 500 campaign, is said to have the aim of reducing the city’s carbon dioxide emissions by 60 per cent by 2025. The campaign is being led by the London Development Agency and the campaign currently has 150 members.

Interest rates could drop to unseen lows

Small businesses around the country may be in for a little bit more luck as the Bank of England has announced that they are preparing to slash interest rates even further in an attempt to avoid having the country caught up too much in a recession.

Businesses are being told that they should be conducting health checks on their business throughout the economic crisis in order to avoid any unforeseen issues that could punish them. The warnings comes as economic analysts have claimed that thousands of small businesses across the country could meet their peril in 2009 due to the downturn.

Redundancy costs a firm over £16,000 per employee

Companies have been warned that the cost of redundancy is far more serious than firms would initially think, as the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development’s has discovered that the cost of letting an employee go and then hiring someone else averages at £16,375.

80 per cent of SMEs don’t provide pension scheme claims ACA survey

News has surfaced that most small businesses in the country do not offer pension schemes for their employees. The information was published in a survey taken by the Association of Consulting Actuaries and shows that a staggering 80 per cent of small businesses in Britain failed to provide any sort of pension scheme to their employees.
