Pound sturggles around 15 year low as Government prepares to announce official recession

The declining strength of the pound has become even more apparent over the last few days as the country has watched it’s worth drop against the dollar. The pound has fallen to close to a 23 year low, standing at $1.3915 for every pound and 1.0688 Euros for every pound.

Unemployment fast approaching 2 million

Unemployment is spiralling out of control in Britain as the figures climb a little closer to the 2 million mark through the economic downturn. However, the government is maintaining the message that the drought will be over soon and that things would ease up on those that are currently unemployed.

YouGov small businesses survey - biscuits before advertising

A new survey taken by YouGov, commissioned by Opus Energy, has uncovered some interesting statistics about small businesses, such as how businesses in Britain are planning on tackling the current economic downturn. For example, the survey shows how many firms are planning on cutting budgets on advertising and company travel to bring around an economic balance through the recession.

Brown announces a second bank bail-out scheme after only 3 months

The government has announced today that a second bail out for banks is in the works, only three months after the first massive bail out was brought to light that was intended to save the banks and ease the tightening felt by the recession. FSB team up with Peter Luff for automatic rate relief for small businesses

The Federation of Small Businesses has announced that they believe small businesses in the country should be automatically provided with business rate relief through a new private member’s bill.

The Federation of Small Businesses, after hearing that the Government is set to provide a £1.3 billion fund for small businesses, has announced that bank managers make good on the fund and supply the necessary money to the businesses that need it the most.

Lord Mandelson announces £20 billion guarantee for small business lending

In an attempt to keep the banks supplying credit to small businesses through the economic downturn, the business secretary, Lord Mandelson has announced that he will be guaranteeing up to £20 billion of small business loans. Businesses that record sales of up to £500 million will qualify for the newly guaranteed loans.
