Unemployment Records Reaching New Heights

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) records show that that unemployment on the UK is still on the rise with the number increasing by another 244,000 in the first three months of 2009 to reach 2.22 million.
In percentage terms, this puts the number of people that are currently without employment at 7.1%. Claims for unemployment benefits also rose to 1.51 million in April alone.

Unemployment Seriously Damaging the Economy

Official figures are expected to show that the UK economy shrank in the first quarter of this year at the same pace that it did in the final three months of last year, which is obviously not necessarily going to be good for business.
Analysts are predicting that the gross domestic product (GDP) will have fallen by 1.5% between January and March of this year after it fell by 1.6% between October and December last year.
