Choosing The Right Accountant

Through such an economic crisis you will be able to understand now more than ever an accountant will be one of the most important advisors you could have on board.

You need to choose an accountant that will be able to ensure that your business grows smoothly as without one you will probably find that your business shrinks and fails quickly.

When choosing an accountant you must make sure that you are going with a company or person who you can trust and who you can be sure will be the best asset for your business.  Read on to find out what you should look for when looking for an accountant;

First Step

You should look for an accountant straight away - don’t let any time pass as the more time without a good accountant means the more time you are at threat.  If possible choose an accountant before you even start the business!

Qualifications

You should make sure that the accountant you choose is fully qualified and will be able to do the job properly -  you should keep your eyes peeled for a certified or chartered accountant.

These qualifications should be clear on the company’s website for example or on promotional materials that you have picked up through your research.  If you can’t find anything then ask.

Price

You should make sure you know exactly what you’re getting into with an accountant - how much will they be charging?  When will they be charging you?  Some accountants will charge hourly, others will charge monthly.

As with anything you should shop around for a good deal but don’t forfeit on quality!

Additional Services

Think about getting your money’s worth from your accountant - hopefully they can do more than one thing for your small business.  Some accountants will be able to help you out with your other paperwork and you will be able to then concentrate on the more important marketing work for example.

Reviews

You should ask for the contact details of previous customers before you make the deal with the accountant - you have the right to make sure what you’re getting yourself into and there is no better way than to hear it from the lips of other customers.

Remember though that no one wants to provide information on clients that weren’t happy so take the reviews with a pinch of salt.

Stay In Touch

If your accountant only wants to get in touch at the end of the financial year then this relationship isn’t good enough - you need an accountant that you can work with through out the year to make sure you are working along on the right path.

If the accountant you are looking to work with isn’t willing to offer this service then move on to another accountant.
