Clients - Keep ‘em Coming In
Just because we’re in a recession doesn’t mean that you have to close your doors to the possibilities of new clients because they are still out there, you just need to make sure you are still attracting them.
In a recession it is not only important to retain existing clients, it’s also massively important to attract new clients. It doesn’t sound possible through such a tough economic climate, but it is. Read on to find out how…
Marketing
The problem with a recession is that everyone worries before hand - this means that at the first sniff of a recession people decide firstly to cut back on their marketing - this is a big mistake!
Cutting back on marketing means that fewer and fewer people are kept aware of your business and even before the recession hits you are forced to close up shop because you don’t have any business left.
It is more important to cut costs in any other area other than marketing. If you have to you should think about switching over to a cheaper marketing provider, but whatever you do keep it going!
Niche
If you are selling the same old tired product that everyone else is selling then you are more than likely going to flop through a recession. If you are the only person out there selling a certain product then you are going to prosper if it’s what people want!
If you focus on one thing you will become a specialist in a specific field - if you sold hats, it would be a useful idea to focus specifically on baseball caps. This way when someone wants to go to buy a baseball cap they would rather come to you than go to someone who only has a general idea about hats. This is because you are providing confidence to your customers!
Variety
Marketing can often work best when it is provided as a mixture of different ideas. If you want to use a successful marketing strategy you should think about coming up with a mix of some of your favourite ideas.
This is the best way to get your message out there in the minds of potential customers rather than sticking with one idea that will only tickle the surface. Imagine cold calling on its own - no include the use of flyers and posting on business forums.
Follow Ups
It is always a good idea to go back and follow up with potential clients that you have gotten into contact with over the last few weeks and months or even years. Don’t let anyone get away.
Get in contact any way - if you have an email, then send them an email with some deals and information about your business, if you have a phone number then give them a call. Whatever happens make sure you get back in their thoughts.
